Year 1943: to escape the horrors of war, the Carver family decided to move on the shores of the Atlantic in a small and strange country where the station clock is running backwards and everything seems rarefied and as seen through the fog. At least this is the first impression that will have the young Max, a little excited about the transfer of the family but resolved to support the decision of the parents. Soon, however, what at first seemed a stay marked by the boredom and regret for the big city life, gradually takes on shades of mysterious and macabre, and a terrible figure, now left clown, now sea serpent, goes so far as to threaten the safety of the family. Carlos Ruiz Zafon, before becoming famous worldwide with his "The Shadow of the Wind", is dedicated to children's literature and wrote a small literary gem. "The Prince of Mist" is both novel training, adventure and mystery, which introduces many of the issues dear to Zafón, such as the slope of the writer to Gothic and magic, and has the added great value to cross the age limit and become interesting and pleasant even for a more mature audience.
